Dynamic E911 with Microsoft Calling Plans

Dynamic emergency calling (Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 55716) for Microsoft Calling Plans provides the capability to configure and route emergency calls based on the current location of the Teams client. Also, you can have a security desk be notified of the 911 call, allowing them to be made aware of a situation. For full details on the feature and configuration guidance, please see the following link.

** PLEASE NOTE THIS FEATURE IS ROLLING OUT DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER so this feature may not yet be active in your tenant.

Just a few quick things to be aware of on how Dynamic E911 works today, please keep an eye on the document listed above as this will be the main document that gets updated as the feature receives updates and additional capabilities.

  • Current supported Clients – Teams desktop client for Windows and Mac-based computers.
  • Dynamic emergency calling is currently available only in the United States
  • Security desk notification is support across all counties that support Microsoft calling plans.
  • If the Teams client is located at a tenant-defined dynamic emergency location, calls from that location are automatically routed to the Public Safety Answering Point.
  • If the Teams client is not located at a tenant-defined dynamic emergency location, emergency calls from that client are screened by a national call center to determine the location fo the caller before transferring the call to the Public Safety Answering Point serving that location.
  • To configure dynamic emergency calling, you need to complete the following steps. You will need to utilize PowerShell for various configuration steps.
  • Please note when doing emergency call testing please use the test number 933 to prevent your calls from interrupting emergency services. This number is routed to a bot that echoes back the caller phone number, emergency address or location, and whether the call is automatically routed to the Public Safety Answering Point or screened first.
    • If you do inadvertently call 911 please do not hang up. Make sure to immediately inform the emergency operator you are doing a test call and that this is not an actual emergency so they do not dispatch the police or fire department.

The feature has not yet rolled out to my demo and personal tenants. Once they do, I will run some additional tests and configurations and provide any further guidance and best practices. As always, make sure to check the link https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/configure-dynamic-emergency-calling frequently as will be updated as new enhancements and options are added to the Dynamic emergency calling feature.
